Kidepo Valley National Park
 
  

The 1436 km² national park in Karamoja region in North West Uganda is rugged savannah, dominated by the 2750 m Mount Morungole and transected by the Rivers Kidepo and Narus.

Perennial water makes River Kidepo an oasis in the semi-desert which hosts over 86 mammal species including lion, cheetah, leopard, bat-eared fox, giraffe — as well as almost 500 bird species.

Activities include rewarding game drives, foot safaris across the Narus Valley and enjoying the isolated wilderness. Look out for the Karamojong people with their traditional pastoralists with few cultural affiliations to other East African groups.

Transport to the park has been made easy through the operation of a chartered flights right from Entebbe International Airport to the main park head quarters and the another Air strip in Lomej which operates domestic flights.

One can also access the park by road. There are three major routes to the park - 740 km journey from Kampala via Mbale to Sironko-Kotido-Kidepo, 792km journey from Kampala via Mbale-Soroti-Moroto as well as Kidepo and 705 km journey from Kampala via Karuma – Lira finally Kotido.

Tourists travelling by road make many stop-overs to enjoy the enrout attractions like the scenery of the Labwor hills, massive and Kidi Rwot rocks in Kotido.
