The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park - the former Kalahari Gemsbok National Park – Is located in the Northernmost corner of South Africa and it’s one of the best kept secrets in South African tourism.

The park straddles the border between South Africa and Botswana and comprises two adjoining national parks: Kalahari Gemsbok National Park in South Africa and Gemsbok National Park in Botswana.

The total area of the park is 38000 km² (14,668 mi²). Approximately three-quarters of the park lies in Botswana and one-quarter in South Africa.

The landscape is characterised by red sand dunes and sparse vegetation and is home to black-maned Kalahari lions, leopards, cheetah, spotted hyaena, wild dog, black-backed jackal, gemsbok, blue wildebeest, eland, springbok, red hartebeest, duiker and steenbok. More than 200 species of bird can be found in the park, including vultures and raptors such as eagles, buzzards, and secretary birds.

The area also has significant archaeological importance and traces of Stone Age human activity have been found.

Migratory herds of large herbivores such as blue wildebeest, springbok, eland, and red hartebeest also live and move seasonally within the park, providing sustenance for the predators.

Within the park there are three traditional tourist lodges, called "rest camps - Safari Bush Lodge, Molopo Kalahari Lodge and !Xaus Lodge Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park - and they include amenities such as air conditioning and swimming pools. The park also contains six wilderness camps:

Twee Rivieren Rest Camp: Located on the Southern boundary of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. This is a fully-equipped 6-bed cottage; fully-equipped, air-conditioned 1-bedroomed and bedsitter (3 and 4-bed) cottages and bungalows with kitchen, shower and toilet.

Grootkolk Camp: It is set in the Kalahari Desert Wilderness Camp. This is a four 2-bed sand cabins with bedroom, ceiling fan, bathroom and kitchen on verandah. One unit for mobility impaired visitors. Each cabin is equipped with cutlery, crockery, linen, fridge and braai. Braai areas available. Gas for hot water and cooking, solar lighting.

Bitterpan Camp: The camp is set in Wilderness Camp in the heart of the Kalahari dunes and is only accessible only by 4x4 vehicles. Accommodation in four 2-bed reed units with shower, basin and toilet. 1 unit for mobility impaired visitors. Communal kitchen and braai area, bedding, towels and eating utensils provided. It has gas and solar lighting.

Mata Mata Rest Camp: This is a fully-equipped 2-bedroomed (6-bed) cottages; fully-equipped 2-bedroomed (4-bed) cottages; 2-bed chalets; fully-equipped rest camp in dry Auob river bed, set in the Kalahari Desert; equipped 3 or 5-bed parkhomes; camping sites.

Nossob Rest Camp: The camp – a guest house, family cottage and chalets - is located in the heart of the Kalahari Desert. The camp has excellent bathroom with shower, separate toilet, kitchen and patio with braai.

Kalahari Tent Camp: The camp features four family tents, ten 2-bed desert tents and one luxury honeymoon desert tent. The tents consist of a bedroom with ceiling fan, bathroom and kitchen. Each tent is equipped with cutlery, crockery, linen, fridge and braai. The camp has a swimming pool and waterhole. Gas used to boil water and cooking while solar is used for lighting.
